Question 2002 F-150 Rear End Swap Question

I have my 2002 XL F-150 6cyl sitting in my driveway with a nuked rear end. The pinion is nuked due to a bad seal/bearing and cannot be removed.

I have been hunting for the entire rear end from local wreckers for a while now but is seems the axle code 27 or the 3.31 Non LS rear axle is hard to find due to seal/bearing issues. The ones that are available are high mileage and $1000.

My rear end has disc brakes. One wrecker said he has 3 drum brake versions from a 98 for $450.

My question is will the disc brakes from mine bolt on to the drum brake rear end assemblies from 97 and up F-150's?

What other options do I have?

Thanks in advance.

2 wheel drive or 4 ? If you dont have a 4 x 4, just buy a standard 3.55 unit and install. Some of them have LS, and some have the disc brakes already.

It is 2 wheel drive.

Does installing a different gear ratio not mess up the computer?

3.31 to 3.55 is a difference of .24 or about 7%. Your speedo will read 100 MPH when you are going 93 MPH. You will read 62 MPH when your going 58 MPH. I would not worry about it. If you wish, you could have the computer flashed to set for the new ratio.

The 3.55 rear are still more expensive so, so if I can put on a drum unit from a year or two earlier can I swap the drums to the existing disks on the nuked rear?

WAY MUCH FOR THAT.

Here in Michigan those go for $125-150 if you remove yourself.

You know part galore in Flat Rock?
