Differences - E Series vs F Series Powerstroke 7.3L ?

I purchased a 2000 E450 16' Cube van for a delivery route that is large volume/low weight and mostly highway miles. The factory guages DO NOT include a tachometer, so I was looking to add guages including a tach as my first upgrade. Since the angle of the glass and the pillar is different, I know the F Series pillar guages won't fit, so I was interested in one of the tuners that plugs into the OBDII and includes a tach as one of the outputs. I went to a local shop to ask some questions and look at/touch the real product. When I told the sales guy what I was looking to do, he called the manufacturer and was told that E Series Powerstrokes have a different computer, and their chips and/or tuners would not work in a van.

1. Has anyone else with an E Series PS been told this? or
2. Have you found a chip/tuner that works with the E Series PS?

the tach signal is actually pulled off one of the windings in the alternator. i can look at the book tommorow to see how its done. far as i know the computer is the same, just the vans have a smaller air ratio turbo and no intercooler. one of my niebors has a passanger van that has been converted to the "safari van" 4x4......and its chipped i will ask him tommorow.

Actually, I think the vans have a larger 1.14 AR turbo housing because they aren't waste gated or intercooled. The trucks have a .84 (or .74...I forget) AR housing.
