I've got a 75 F250 hi-boy that's powered with a 390 & C6. I'm going to be building a motor and wanted to throw some headers on it while I swap motors.
My question is that I've heard before that you can run into clearance/fit problems with installing headers on a hi-boy. Has anyone ran into this problem while installing them? What brand did you use?
Finally, how's yer starter holding up? Do you have a heat shield?
The term High-Boy wasnt given by ford so when looking for headers dont look for "High-Boy Headers" look for 75/F250, 390, 4x4. Ive found none for my 74 F250 360 4x4...thinking on makeing some. Good Luck
Mike, I have a 66 F100 with a 390 with headers, I think the frame set-up should be close to the same. I have been using a set of Cyclone headers on the truck since 1981, no heat shield and the same starter has been it all along, I did replace the starter drive last year. I do not think Cyclone is around these days but you should beable to find something close. They have never leaked and never come loose. The routeting of the pipes over the trans mount was close, but doable.
The Cyclones came in 3 pieces on the right side to go around the engine mount, that side was a real pain.
Good luck, Allen

Ive got a '75 f250 360 4x4 4spd stick shift and i ordered the hooker headers from summit....
complete PITA to fit (like a whole days worth) and that was with no heads or intake on the motor) but they did finally go on.. they were order code HOK-6905HKR from summit racing.
ive installed the heat shield around the starter (THE-14150, again from summit) just gotta see how it holds up, it looks like the header is touching the heat shielding but we'll see...
they sound fantastic though hope that helps you some..
I had a '74 highboy and found Blackjack alumi-coat headers in the returns section of a local ATV (speed shop). But that was 18 years ago. For a 435NP 4-speed.
They fit the highboy by routing two pipes on the passenger-side around the motor mount. If you see pictures of a right-side header with a big gaping hole where the motor mount would pass through, those are the ones
Otherwise, I think a set of shorty or other headers could work, like Edge Motorsport said, he had a part #.
no probs dude, the hookers are obviously longtube jobbies.. they dont finish in a 3 bolt flange like the dude at summit said though, they finish in a 2 1/2" straight pipe. they actually end where the transmission mount is (well just under it)
they sound fantastic althouh i scraped a load of the black paint off them trying to get the things to fit...
i think the holly flowtech ones are way easier to fit, they come as a 2 piece kit, kinda like a shorty header and a down pipe, but it does seem kinda halfassed..
If shorties where my only option i would take them over stock manifolds anyday...but with past experiences with shortie headers i would take full-lenghts over shorties anyday.
Here's another part number for you to look for. Hedman Headers, p/n 89120. 1 3/4 primary with 3" collectors. These are long tube headers. I have had them on my 1970 F250 4x4 390 w/4-speed for over 5 years.
Like most long tube headers they were a PITA to install.
I am installing Dynomax blackjack headers on my 76 Highboy 390 C6 tomorrow. The right side is that 2 piece design, im hoping it doesnt leak. I will let you all know how it goes. BTW they are $125.99 from summit.
I am in the middle of making up the exhaust for my f250 '75 hiboy...
ive got the hooker long tubes on but it doesnt look like theres enough room to get a pipe on the end of the collector, it touches the rear mount of the front leaf...
gonna have to come up with something creative here !!
Mike, you might also want to consider Tri-Ys from Stans or Ford Powertrain Applications ( FPA ). One of our men here had Stan's and had nothing but good things to say about them. DF, @ his Dad's house
