Not sure what you have to do to smog in AZ, but in CA, if you do an engine change, you have to meet the emissions requirements of the newer of the two--if you put a Y Block in, you still have to meet '85 regs. If you go to the later EFI motor, you have to meet those regs.
To do your swap, you will need the motor, computer, intake system, exhausts up to the cats, and wiring harness from the later model unit.
Not sure if you can continue to use your non-computer controlled AOD--later models used the E4OD, right?
I'd find a later model "donor" vehicle and check the specs on it.
It isn't impossible. Worth it? How long you gonna run this thing?

thkz..the van was inherited from my dad , who had keep it garaged and in show room condition since he bought it in '85(except for the casual wear n tear from time on the road ) the stock engine has hit the 400,000 mile mark w/no rebuild or major malfunctions! so i plan on keeping the van/just need to put the tired stock 302 to rest!
thanks for the info.....i think ill stay carbed n' keep it easy
