Question Hey Brian: Sensatrac shocks

Brian, I saw in another thread that you replaced your factory shocks with Monroe Sensatracs. Did you find them to be considerably stiffer than the OEM shocks? I had a guy change all of my ball joints, front shocks, and inner/outter bearings this weekend and I was expecting to not feel small bumps anymore on the interstate. They just seem much firmer than what I remember the stockers being.

Thanks,
Rich

hey, just had some monroe sensatracs put on my parent's van. Shocks out back, struts up front.

They're noticeably stiffer, but a nice ride. The shocks that were on there had 107k

Mine had almost 107,000 on them as well. The Sensatracs aren't bad or anything, just stiffer than I had hoped for. 90% of my driving is interstate, so I wanted cushy.

Rich,
I wouldn;t describe it as "stiffer", but describing things like this are very subject to one's choice of words.
When I think "stiffer", I think springs and spring rate.
I would say the SensaTracs might have more compression and rebound damping, which makes them less "cushy", but that is what I like.
I noticed the biggest difference in the rate and amount of body roll. The new shocks made a difference in how fast and much the body rolled when driving twisty roads.
They also made a noticeable difference on the interstate when you get to one of those stretches that seems to be built precisely for the purpose of setting up a rhythm in attempt to get my truck airborne.

Overall I am very happy with them. I especially like the lifetime free replacement warranty (which was honored witout question).

Thanks, Brian. I did notice the truck takes curves better with the new shocks. Well, they are on there so they are staying. The ride comfort is certainly nothing that I am going to complain about. I was just hoping to duplicate the ride quality from when the thing was new. I thought it had an excellent highway ride for a truck. Very..."cushy on the tushy"...Kinda like a pillow top mattress. Soft..and yet firm.... I think I have confused myself.
