Tach Doesnt work when its cold

i just put a stock tach in my 84 f-150 and it doesnt work until it warms up is there any way i can fix it?

or does anyone have one laying around?

Did you ever figure this out? Now mine is doing the same thing. I think I might try to disassemble it and clean out the insides.

no i just found another one because i tried to take it apart and clean it i sparyed it full of electrical contact cleaner and WD-40 but it didnt help it has to do with one of the plastic bushing in there when they get cold they swell up and bind up the shaft if you take it off and try tio move the needle it will be stiff but take it in the house for an hour and if will work like a charm so my advice is just find a new one they go on e-bay for about 50 bucks
