The 5.0 replacement (why does 5.0 Liter sound more impressive than 302? Must be a 'Stang thang...) was almost ready to go for tomorrow. I planned on ripping the old six out, and having the new engine dressed and ready to drop in, with most everything on it already.
Bummer deal, the Mr Gasket pan was a front sump, and that won't even fit on the motor - much less around the crossmember.
It sure is looking good though! (From the block upward)
I guess it's back to the parts store, and then I have to wait for the new pan...
For future reference, the 302 pan gasket gets wider apart towards the front of the block, in case anyone plans to get a new pan...
If I had realised that when I picked it up I'd be a happy man right now
I guess you know you need a oil pump pickup tube, support stud that goes in one of the main bearing caps, matching dipstick, etc. Also, some pans have the dipstick in the pan (good) and some don't (requires dipstick in rear side of block).
You actually need a double sump pan. The front sump drops just enough to house the oil pump. JEGS and Summit Racing sell the kit for around $130 that includes the extended pickup and dipstick.
