WooHoo! Dyno day!
So Quadzilla writes me and askes me if I wanted to go down to Tacoma and join in on the Feb 26th Dyno Pull. This sounds like fun, so I say yes and go. When I get there there is about 10 REAL NICE trucks there with HUGE tailpipes! I think: "Oh great!, I'm going to be a real wanna-be in the power dept." But I didn't care, I wanted to see those truck spin up the rollers. And spin they did. One of the Superduties had a 4 inch exhaust that blew out with so much force that it tipped over the warehouse fan that was supposed to keep the area free of smoke. It was sitting about 3 feet from the tailpipe and pointing at a 45 degree angle toward the rear of the truck and the door leading out. As soon as the smoke started it was nice and black, then the turbo spooled up, then the fan hit the floor! Everybody laughed and choked at the same time. Quadzilla's friend from Canada came down and owned the HP dept. Something a little shy of 400HP at the wheels. Quadz did a respectable 358 and having a lot of trouble getting past 10 psi of boost. (Rollers were too small). There was a (cough) real nice Dodge that was too loud but had a lot of torque. (I forget the numbers.) I can only boast that I had the strongest rear axle of the lot, a Dana 135 with 4.88 gears. The operator popped up after strapping me down and said: "Now THAT'S a rear axle!" My numbers were pretty small compared to the rest of the bunch, but I want to post them so I can tell what a difference that a little 5.6k resister will do for a stock programmed PSD. I did three pulls.
First pull was 171.2 hp in 6th gear, hitting the rev limiter at 83 mph.
Second pull was 178.6 hp in 5th gear hitting the rev limiter at 64 mph.
Both of the first pulls were done stock, no 5.6k resister.
Third and last pull was 231.7 hp in 5th gear, again hitting the rev limiter at 64 mph and using the 5.6k resister in the same place as a 10k mod.
It was fun to meet all the people and put faces to names, see all the great trucks, drool, and trade stories.

Sounds like a good time kwik!! Even if you didn't have the biggest horsepower numbers, it's always nice to know what you are putting out. And you know what it means that you have Dana 135 axles.... that you can put just that much more hp to it than those little Dana 60s (or the similar) that those other little trucks had...

Kwik, the truck put down 392 before, but only 356 that day. Scott didnt do poop because of the issue with the rollers not loading the motor. The dodge did 303 HP, another SD did 299, i did 279, and a duramax did 531.

the red and silver one did the 356, mine is the stroker on the big tires.

It was great meeting you, Dan and Dusten, and though my truck couldn't develop any boost on the dyno, I had a great time.
He's got a '95 Supercab, and started with the basic mods: TYMAR intake, downpipe, 4" exhaust, propane, gauges, etc. Then he decided to step up to a 5" exhaust with 6" tip, bigger injectors, bigger HPOP system, and built tranny. His injectors are hybrid 250's, and he's only dyno'd twice since putting it all together: 350ish in Tacoma on Saturday, and 390 in Abbottsford BC last October.
The lightweight rollers didn't load the engines properly, so all the diesels were down on power, but mine was affected more than others because I run propane, and rely on boost to generate power more than others. I couldn't get more than 7psi boost on the rollers, but pulling out of the parking lot, I was in the mid 20's within the first block.

Something like that, and the rev limiter won't let you go past that. Try it. Put the truck in neutral and floor the pedal. The engine will rev up to the redline and no farther.

I was gonna say - my truck goes way past 3200 if I've got 'er on the floor!!!
Have you dynoed before Quad?? Do you know what you should have had if they could have loaded you right?? Did you try power braking at all to get the boost up??
