hi all
just a front hub question. on my hub it has auto or lock positions. but when the truck is in auto the 4wd wont work right? i have to first lock the hubs then turn the swich to 4whigh right? why dont they just say lock and unlock like the old trucks?
when in the auto position you should just have to put it in 4wd and do nothing with the hubs. If it doesnt go in then you have to get out and put the hubs in manually. If you are using 4wd alot in & out situations better off to use manuall. I think the auto is just incase you need 4wd once in a great while
I wholly agree with Duane99. Have a 4x4 auto hub 97 250 gasser at work. I use 4 wheel drive 90% of my driving (rough off-road daily). Have had to replace the auto hubs 3 times. It's a gov't rig, so don't have any say in how it gets fixed... I do know that in many instances I have put the lever in 4 Lo and the 4x4 doesn't engage until the wheel rotates 2-3 turns (or more). Doesn't help when you aren't prepared for the situation and need 4x4 immediately and stuck is what you get! Spend money on the manual hubs if you have to fix the ones you have... at least you'll know when they are locked in.
I just learned something... look in this forum and read the ac ****/heater/defrost post. You may be having a problem w/your vacuum system. This is an awesome site... if you have the time to read everything you can get quite the education!
Good luck
DANNUNZ, I got a 2001 f350 4x4 with esof and it works real good. you might have a vacume leak some where in the lines. if the esof is working right and you want to shift from 4 high back to 2wd you have to bring truck to a stop then back up about 15 feet to dissengage the front shaft so it wont rotate. 01psd
