I Recintly bought a 1987 ford f-250 with a..(i was told) 460 b.b. the problem i am having is trying to find out what year the motor is! i know they are all about the same but if it is older then 73' then some things are different
it is deffinitly a 460 with a 4-barrel carb. the only numbers on the top of the motor are the firing order and d5ve-9425-a3d
if any body can help me identify this motor i would greatly apreciate it!!
thanks,
Danny Allen

Reason: typo
where are these numbers at? The engine block casting numbers are on the rear of the right side. The head numbers are on the ledge above the exhaust ports. D5VE means 1975 lincoln engine. You might want to check the other numbers just to make sure they match

the number you posted is the intake part number cba135 is right its a 75 intake. look for the other numbers where cba135 mentioned they will tell more about the block and head combination
you said in your other post you have a points dis. that is why it runs better with smaller plug gap . electronic ign. puts out a stronger and hotter spark. stating problem sounds like your carb. choke stuck or not working? gas draining out of carb over nite? good luck
Thanks guys you have all been a big help! and i am pretty sure it is a problem with the carb. it has a manual choke hooked up but i am still trying to figure out the finer points off adjusting it! what causes the gas to drain out of the carb?
any ways thanks!
what do you think the timing should bee set at?
