Question Good buy but low trade in

Have you noticed that on the real good new truck buys the trade in is way way below actual value. I mean not even close to Kelly or NADA trade value. If they lower new price they also lower trade in to compensate.

Thats right. YOu have to take the time to sell it yourself, or else you don't really gain much.

Smile F350 Bought new

In Aug of 03 I bought my new F350. Its a 5.4 regular cab single rear wheel. It has quite a few nice options, power seat, cab steps, running lights, snow plow prep, 2" hitch, nicer wheels and tires, automatic trans and all the XLT goodies air, power windows, mirrors, tilt, cruise, and cd. It had a sticker price of 33,000 and got it for 19,000 plus my 97 F150 which was a nice truck 75,000 on it just had it painted cause it had 2300 worth of damage from kids throwing rocks and a roof full of body filler, I was happy!

It has been my experience (here in DFW) that most dealers will shop your trade to local whole sellers without much regard to what KBB, NADA, or Blackbook has to say. Basically, you get what your local whole selling market offers.

Carmax however, typically offers blue book or a little higher for a good vehicle they feel they can sell.

FYI: V-10s in this market were not even getting @ whole sale offers...to hard to sell in the big city due to mileage concerns.

I recently helped a friend of mine negotiate a used V-10 deal, from a new car dealer no less, at under whole sale.

Hope this info helps & good luck.

my dealer is giving me blue book trade in value, its a little lower than selling it yourself value, plus take into account no sales tax paid on the trade in value adds a little 6.5% here in florida

forgot about that no tax on tradein value. wonder if all states are that way? would make a difference on bottom line cost.
