I recently changed the head gasket in my 93 ford ranger 4.OL after that I had some overheating problems .....well I fixed that issue reconnected the negative battery terminal and it smoked well melted one of the wires that come of the solenoid mounted on the inside fender so I replaced that fixed the wire it started I drove about 5 miles and the truck just quit like something shut down. I still have electrical all working but I can turn it over and it just has nothing no firing it has spark pulled one of the gas lines off turned the key had fuel I can hear the fuel pump working I just don't get it can anyone help me? or have any idea why it will not start?
Sounds like you may have pinched a wire or somthing is grounding out look around and see if any of the wiring was damaged durring your head gasket ordeal.
Do you know why the wire fried? Maybe something burned up the computer. Have you checked all the fuses? If you have spark and fuel, about the only things left are compression or timing. Since you just replaced the head gasket, maybe you should do a compression check, at least on the side you replaced. I would check all 6. If they all have compression, the mechanical part of the timing system is ok and it is probably something to do with the computer. Maybe a relay (like the EEC) has failed.
