Hi all! I'm back! Been off of here since 05-31-2004.
"Brown Beast" ( F150 4x4 ) died! Now I have this 1995 Explorer Eddie Bauer
4X4 with 130xxx miles on it. Replaced the power steering rack ( A REAL PAIN!)
and new brake pads all around. New 275/70/16 tires. Here is the problems that I cannot figure out. 1) rear brakes sqeal, even though they are new. It is quite loud and VERRY anoing! 2) when I slow down fairly hard, I hear this massive "roar" or loud humm. Kinda like bad wheel bearings, but those are new too. (I THOUGHT that was the problem, but still hear the same noise even though I trplaced the bearings.) Sorry this is so long, but I need some good advice here. Thanks!!
When you put the rear brakes back together... did you adjust the e-brake? They could be dragging and causing the noise you hear. Also, before you installed the new brake pads, did you clean all the surfaces that the pads ride on, and apply some high temp grease? One last thing to try would be some anti-sqeal compound on the pads. I had to do this on my wife's car to keep the brakes quiet.
