Question to straighten a bent PS pulley...

that is my question. to straighten a bent Power Steering pulley or not?? i bought a 400 engine to rebuild and it is going well. i got the old carb and the old Power Steering pump, but the pulley on the PS pump has been bent past useable so if possible i would like to straighten it. i know it is a steel pulley wheel and i believe i can get it close to straight at least enough to be useable again. has anybody done this?? any comment???

Talking

tried it once kept tearing up the belt. Picked up an entire pump at a boneyard for $15. And seeing as how the pump was still good I just put the entie thing on. It still works 18 months later. It turned out to be cheaper and easier. Just my 2-cents worth.

If you can't find an used pump with a pulley on it somewhere, I would spend the $10-$20 and buy a new one. As Harrison stated, you will pay more in replacing belts than the pulley would cost.

Remember, if it is a PRESSED on pulley, you neeed the appropriate removal tool (more $$). But there is no other way around it.

It will need to be pressed on as well, but that MAY be something you can do yourself using a Grade-8 bolt about 3" long and some nice washers.

And Autozone lends this puller/presser tool for free.

I used it a dozen times, then bought my own from HF when on sale for $10

Haven't needed one since!..
