you want to make sure your fuel filter is clean, first. then, i have to ask you if the cps has been changed. your symtoms are close to what mine did...hard to start, and then it would surge and little if any throttle response. this sensor tells the pcm the rpm of the engine and uses that signal and many other signals to control the engine, as there is no throttle cable. i recomend that you change the cps, if it has not already been done. tip, buy it from the international dealer, not ford !

Mine - a 2001 F-350 does the same thing when cold (<25° or so). The CPS is new.

A diesel shop has already done extensive diagnostic testing and can find nothing. My HPOP is putting out 3000 to 4000 psig which some in the forum feel is too high. I am running Rotella 15W - 40. Those who run the 10W-30 say they have no problems. A co-worker has the same truck as mine running the same oil (Rotella) and has no problems. Who knows what gives.

I am going to find out why the engine does this. Per a suggestion I hold off until the "wait light" goes out and the fuel pump stop running before I turn the key. It has not solved the problem however.

Good luck,

Reg
