we racently bought a 96 aerostar 4wd and the sliding door is stuck. does anyone know how to get it open so i can get it repaired.

 

Remove the inside door panel and window trim to be safe 'That upper window trim is easy to crack"

You will see a rod that runs along the midle from the inside door handle to the latch. Hold the rod in the middle with some pliers and yank it back hard.

The cause is the plastic clip that hold's it broke or the ro connection came off up front or the rear.

 

I agree with muffinman also rinse all linkage with wd40 and work it back and forth to flush out dirt. Mine was so worn out I ended up drilling out the old assembly and riveting in a good one from the bone yard. Works great now.

 

Thank you so much. we got it open and then sprayed it really good. now it opens. and all we needed to do to get it to open from the outside was put a piece of cardboard on the plastic part that goes to the outside handle and now it opens great from the outside and inside. thanks again
