Attention!! Body Men and Fabricators

Today I picked up a set (front and Rears) of fenders from a 1940 chevy 4 door sedan.

I am planning on graffting them to my 51 F1, I have a pretty good Idea how I THINK Im gonna do this but Im curious to see what some of you with more experience have to say or ideas on how you might do this design wise.

slaughter69, if you are really going to do this I would suggest that you leave as much of the original (truck) mounting areas intact and graft the sheet metal from the '40 where the contours are the closest. For the rears you may want to try something from a coupe, I think! think that is, don't quote me on this, that the sedan fenders are a lot narrower than the coupe due to the configuration of the trunk and rear 1/4 panel area(s). This is one of those projects that I like to see finished. Good Luck!!!!

Hey Fat.
I think Im gonna haffta trim the fronts down and in the end the front end will end up being one peice with a front end hinge job . the rears are to narrow but cutting just inside the flange and fabricating a wide strip down the inside between the body of the fender and the flange SHOULD fix that as well.I just hope the length of the 40s isnt so different as to cause a problem up front.
And LOL I bet I want to see it finished WAY more than you do . HAHA

Tony

BTW. This was one of those deals you just cant pass up.
I got all 4 fenders (fronts are complete with headlight and running light buckets) for $500.

Tony -

That sounds like such a cool idea !!!!

I'm not real familiar with the geometry of the Chevy fender interface or whether coupe is better than sedan, but I can visualize the end result and I really like the idea. The interfaces of the fenders with the inner fenders and grill in the front will be a challenge. The rear fender interface with the bed shouldn't be too bad. DO french the headlights! (And tail lights?)

You MUST add an album of this for all of us to keep up with you.

Go for it, Dude!

Randy,

The front end will definatly be a challenge But Im pretty confident it can be done and that the end result will be a real eye opener. I like the way the headlights and running(signal) lights sit on top of the fender of the 40 chevy instead of IN the front of the fender if I can french them in the same buckets they are in I definatly WILL be doing that. And I promise to keep adding pics as often as work is being done.

hey, slaughter, don't know why I didn't think of this before, but I did finish work on a 40 chevy (ugh) a while back and traced around the botton of the headlights, cut a hole in the fender and dropped the lights a couple of inches, took away the bullfrog look, frenched the headlights, it is awesome. by the way, check Hagan products for a light frenching kit that eliminates the guess work and the minute fabricating. comes with trim rings and the whole bit, good luck!

Also consider reversing the rears by swapping sides. Ive seen that done on some p/u fender swaps and it really looks good on a low ride.

I'll look later and see if I saved anything on the PC at home. One that comes to mind was something like 37-40 Ford car fenders on a 50's Stude 1/2 ton.
The long leading edge from the reversal really stood out and looked great.

Wouldn't it just be easier to have picked up the rest of the Chevy also.
