Would you buy your 04-05 again?

I'm thinking of trading my 02 F-150 over the summer, and had some questions.
How are the new truck holding up?
Is the 4.6 enough power for a supercab STX/XLT 4x2?
Anyone expieriencing squeaks/rattles? My 02 is still tight after 69K miles?
Has the vibration issue been resolved?
Any replies would be appreciated.

Texan, I've had '01 and now '05 SCrews. I have to say that there are good and bad to both. My '01 had ~72,000 miles on it when I did my aerobatics (see gallery) and it was still tight. I much prefered the interior of the '01 along with the engine response and the behind rear seat storage. As far as the '05, I like the exterior styling, towing, DVD and the fact that it is just tough as nails. I would DEFINITELY get the 5.4. The throttle-by-wire in the '05s makes for sluggish throttle response so the extra horses are appreciated and from what I read, the mileage is about the same.

Having owned both now, I probably wouldn't have traded in the '01 for the '05, but now that I was forced into getting a new truck, I absolutely love my new '05 SCrew.

Hey Tex!! To answer your topic, I would definitely buy this truck (the one I own currently) again. She's a champ, I think the guys at KC saw the order sheet and said "Boys, we're makin this one gooood"! At 12,500 miles, she's still a thrill!

For the other questions, just read through the board. Most folks are very satisfied, but others have problems that can't get fixed. There have been alot of buybacks.

The 4.6 should be a fine motor in a 4x2...I have the 5.4 (tested a 4.6 SCREW 4x4 and felt it was too underpowered), just watch what you haul or tow.

Squeaks/rattles run the spectrum...I can't complain but others have had problems w/ the rear sliding window squeak, wind noise at the windshield, and other assorted noises. What you need to remember is that this has a really quiet cab (little engine or road noise), so what ever happens inside catches your attention.

The vibe issue affected some '04s, can't really say if '05s are showing the same. Also keep in mind that Ford equips these things with the most basic tire possible (to meet EPA mileage by less rolling resistance of a pax tire), and there have been probs with bad/out of balance tires. The 17 and 18 inch tire sizes only have limited offerings aftermarket, but it's bound to get better as they continue to sell millions of these trucks.

Of course, your question is posted on the Internet, and you'll get more opinions than you can handle. From me....BUY IT!!!

yes, i would buy my F150 again! i have owned seven other new vehicles in the past (88 toyota pickup, 97 jeep wrangler, 98 honda accord, 2000 toyota tacoma, 2001 honda accord, 2002 nissan xterra, 2004 toyota tacoma).

i can tell you from experience that so far (8000 miles) this ford truck, has been as good, if not better than any i've ever owned. when new, every vehicle may require service adjustments to get them in line to your driving style and tolerance level for the littles things.

every vehicle will have its own character. if you are good to it and it cranks every day and gets you where you are going safely/comfortably, then you have a good one. my ford is just that, a truck with character that is reliable, safe and comfortable.

get the 5.4!

Yes 100%. This truck rocks and I plan to keep it a long time. I'm seeing more and more of these style out on the road. Almost everytime I drive somewhere I see two or three of them. Best bet is to test drive all the competition and then decide which you prefer. I test drove both Chevy and Dodge and this one was clearly better.

i'd buy the 04/05 style again. I really wanted the 4 door versus the supercab but settled for the supercab due to concerns the AC was too weak ( i am in south texas)

if i had it to do over again i would still buy the ford but would think harder about the 4 door supercab ( assuming the AC was improved).

Over 7k miles on my supercab and it is really a good ride.

It's almost time to figure out a good seat cleaning product though. I may go to the Ford house for this as i understand many seat cleaning products will stain or discolor the new ford seats.

I never had a problem with A/C cooling on the '01, living in SE Alabama. Haven't had the '05 through the summer yet so can't speak for it but I'd be surprised if it were not at least as good as the '01.

Thanks for your answers guys!

If my truck was a S-cab, I'd hold onto it till the wheels came off, but I'm wanting something bigger. This truck has been so trouble-free it's mind-boggling. All I've had to replace in 69,205 miles are 2 license plate bulbs!!
I do all the maintenance by the book, and dont run it hard.
I'm leaning away from the XLT to the STX on the new truck , cause I dont want/need all the power gizmos, and it's $3K dollars cheaper. Only thing about the STX is the jet black grill, & lack of color choices.

I think the STX only comes in a 4.6 v8. I have a 4.6 in my truck and for what I do I love it. The most I tow is a 1500 pound trailer with a 4000-4500 lb. tractor ad bushog and it does great. I haul birddogs around all week and I get anywhere from 16-20 mpg during my hunting excrusions (most of which are under 50 miles one way).

I live in hills and hoolers and the 4.6 is a good engine, I haven't talked personally to anyone with the 5.4 in the 04's and up but both are good engines.

I have a reg. cab XLT flareside 4x4 and YES I would buy my truck again tomorrow.

Tex, like I said, I wouldn't have traded my '01 for the '05 for like you, I planned to "hold onto it 'til the wheels came off." Given that you have decided to replace your '02, I'd buy as much truck as I could afford. See the https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=342297 link.

I'd buy the same thing again. I have the standard cab XLT 4X4 with the 5.4. Being the lightest truck with the largest engine, it has plenty of zip and gets the mileage listed on the sticker. If you don't need to haul extra people, the standard cab is perfect. Plenty of room for luggage and groceries and the shorter wheelbase makes it very handy in tight places (even though you have no way of knowing what is right behind you).
