Ranger automatic electrical question

87 4x4 2.9 Ex. cab, OD auto. Had trans failure, burnt to a crisp, found what seemed like an identical switch, all went well till I went to hook up the elect. connector to the valve body, the original had a two wire connection, the swap had a three terminal socket. My question is, I removed the two wire from the old valve body, and replaced the three term. one in the swap, removing the second solenoid on the valve body, and replacing with the spring and valve from the two term. using the plate to hold them in. it seems to work well, even though I have not really done more than 5-6 miles. Am I missing something or did I get lucky? The only noticable difference between the two is mine has the electric transfer case and the swap had a stick operated. Any input much appreciated Thank you....
