do it yourself Air conditioning
I took my wifes 87 ford escort to a local garage to charge the air conditioning this spring. Two pounds at SIXTY BUCKS a pound for R134a, stop leak and labour plus Gst plus PST total $240. Recently I bought a 93 Intrepid cheap, air equipped but needed charging. I was in the US recently and bought 3pounds of 134a,stop leak, system oil, pressure guage, instruction CD etc, Cost $38 US. The charging was a snap and the car blows ice cold. I again went south and bought the same kit for my daughters 90 buick. I converted it over from R-12 and in less than 10 minuites it was blowing cold with the envirnmently friendlier R134a. Thought I would pass it on as the savings are significant and I have in the past not charged my ac because of the local costs. I sure am P.Oed with myself for not looking into this sooner as I had the air charged in the escort for a trip south before leaving Ontario. Anyone else know of other savings a trip south may produce please let me know, I hate being ripped off.
