rear window wiper not touching

rear window wiper not touching
My rear window wiper is not touching the glass on the first half of its run.. I watched it move back and forth for a while and it doesn't seem bent. When I bend the arm closer to the glass it will touch it for a while but then go back the way it was. Is the motor not completely aligned or the arm that bent? The wiper blade is new.

I had the same problem too. I took the rear wiper off and noticed there was a lot of sand and crud around the spring in the arm. I cleaned it out and it helped a bit but it still didn't wipe correctly. I went to the local Canadian Tire store and bought this item: http://www.surewipe.com/en/index_800x600.htm
Worked great!

A fairly weak spring holds the blade against the glass. Any crud that seeps between the moving parts weakens the spring's effect to hold the blade in place. i use a lubricant like LPS2 to clean out the mechanism and to lubricate. Back the spray against a rag and wrap the base of the arm in a clean rag for a while to keep drips off the finish. Lots of salt spray in certain snowy climates finds its way into the linkage. Give the glass window linkage in the tailgate section a couple shots of LPS2 while you're there. This stuff is great on the garage door rollers too.

Thinking about that product(my local parts store didn't carry that or anything similar) I guess I could shorten the spring inside the wiper arm. That in theory would force the arm to stay closer to the glass.? 1081 with what did you bend the arm and how much did you actually bend it? When I tried bending the arm it worked for a very short while but went back to what its currently doing.

i have same problem on 97 explorer sohc.......I bent the arm....Stuck it in the vice and Slowly added a curve to it on the top half only adding A LITTLE bit of a bend but i bent it evenly not just in one spot.Works better then ever now.
Your problem might be you bent it to much to close to the top.
I like that surewipe product might buy one when this wiper wears out.
