I posted a back in January(1270 miles) that I had a vibration problem between 70-80 MPH. The dealer said that I had a tire with a hard spot and replaced it. Now with 2600 miles, the vibration still exists. Have any of you had the same problem? It makes highway driving miserable. I didn't pay $33000 for a vehicle that I would rather not take on long trips....kind of like owning a Harley!!! Dealer is working with Ford now on my 4th trip back to them.
I bought mine mid December and I also had the vibration above 65 on my first road trip. Brought it back and they replaced all 4 tires at 800 miles. I tried to get them to put on Michelins (instead of the Continentals) but they told me Ford would not authorize this. I was even willing to pay the dif? Anyway with the 4 new tires....no vibration at all.
I have the same problem, I am going to the dealership again for the sixth time on friday. I have filed two complaints with Ford customer care, and it seemed to light a fire under their asses. I took mine in last friday, and wrote down the miles before dropping off the vehicle, and when I picked it up, same mileage. I asked the dealership if they bothered to test drive to make sure the vibration problem was fixed, they said yes, and gave me a wheel balancing report that showed the tires were within tolerences... I drove home, and vibration was still there. So I filed another complaint, and the service manager called trying to apologize, and set up another appointment...
I have an '04 XLT Sport and had the same problem from day one. The dealer "road force" balanced all four tires and determined that the rear tires were ok and that the front two tires were not within spec. They replaced both front tires with two new Continentals (same as originals). This seems to have solved the problem. We'll see if it comes back the first time I rotate the tires. I have about 5000 miles on it so far.
You were getting some sympathy until the Harley remark! My Harley rides better than Your Expedition at Highway speeds. You ought to try One!. About the shake, worst case scenario try having the tires high speed balanced on the SUV, sometimes it makes a world of difference. Good Luck.
Have rotated Goodyeaer Wrangler RTS at 5k miles & rode smooth until now 9 month of owning vehicle 9500 miles Front Tires are cupping on inside tread. Had alignment checked at dealer said it was Toe'd out slightly. Inquired about Goodyears Out of Round program for replacing tires & Service Director says only a Regional Manager can make that decision ? Said he would call me back this week when Regional Rep was at dealership...so far I have not received a call from dealership. Is this normal? Tire size 255/70/R16 Don't do much off road driving but I do leave in sticks & drive on gravel as much as I do highway. Check my tire pressure evry 3 weeks.
Darth is right..the squeaky whhel gets the attention. I wasn't satisfied with what the service writer told me. I wasn't satisfied with what the Service Manager/Director told me. I did complain with Ford Customer care using the 800# I did contact Goodyear to find out about the warranty on the tires. Goodyear informed me about the out of round program. Ford & their represenatatives..service writer, mechanic & service director NEVER MENTIONED a word about it until AFTER I inquired that Goodyear had told me about it.
I figure it is Ford Policy not to mention it unles customer mentions it. Even GM of the dealership couldn't help me because the sales regional manager is a different person from the service departments regional manager. Finally after 10 days of waiting I got to see the FordMOCO regional service rep. After taking off another 1/2 day of work & meeting with them they replaced ALL 4 tires. I had to prove I was a consistent customer of the dealership, I had to have receipts my tires were balanced by a Goodyear authorized place of business. The vehicle was built in 12/2004. They tried to find every way to weasel out of replacing these tires. In the end I got 4 of the same Goodyear RTS tires that came OEM with the truck. When they wear out I will get BF Goodrich or Michelins. I will still rotate them evry 5,000 miles and check the air every mount. I will let you know next year if they lasted 10,000 miles without going out of round again..
