85 F250 4x4 351w Manifold Leak?
I have an 85 F250 4x4 and when I am excellerating it seems to make a ticking sound like there is a leak from the Exhaust manifold. Is this a big job or just a replacement gasket? I have been thinking of adding headers with a new manifold, is this the time to do it and will it solve my problem?
Thanks

You may have a cracked manifold, you could try to arcweld it while still on engine with a high nickel content rod.It will still make a little noise when cold but should get less as engine warms up,and thats only if you can get at it.The best time to convert to headers is when you need a entire system anyway.

Don't know if 351 is same as 302 but I just went through this with my 302 and it turned out to be the tube that runs between both heads on the back of the motor where the air pump pushes air into the heads. There was a hole rusted in the bottom of the tube which created said exhaust leak. Have a look at this first because you may spend a lot of time and money looking for ghosts.

Let me know if that's what it turns out to be. Hopefully it is that tube. If your air pump belt has accidently fallen off then you can put a couple of sheet metal squares under the flanges of the tube to block off the holes in the head. This will cure the leak.
