I just ordered my '05 F-150 and was told to expect it to arrive in the standard 6 to 8 weeks. The dealer agreed to sell the truck to me at their invoice price, which exactly matched invoice pricing I found online. The salesman warned me that the invoice price might go up a little by the time the truck arrived because Ford raises the invoice prices every month or two. He said that the final sale price might be up to $500 more than the invoice he showed me by the time the truck arrives. Is this true or are they trying to pad the sale? He said that the upside is that Ford might be offering lower financing or better incentives by the time the truck gets here.
Shame on your salesperson. Once a vehicle is ordered as a "sold" unit and they've issued a DORA, the order is price protected. Yes, the numbers on the invoice and window sticker can increase, because the Ford computer only issues current pricing on those documents. But you should only be charged what you and the dealer originally agreed to; the dealer applies for a rebate of the difference once you take delivery of the vehicle. Some dealers tell customers they have to wait for Ford to issue the credit before you get the difference back, but don't let them do that. I've never made a customer wait while Ford is processing the paperwork. Whatever it says on the original DORA is the price you should be paying.
That's kind of what I thought. If its OK with you, I'd like to print this and take it to my salesperson. What is a DORA? They just had me initial the document showing the current invoice (which matched my research) vs. window sticker pricing.
Basically what they are saying is, "this is invoice and we will sell it to you for that...provided we don't change our mind and decide to make a few more bucks. "

You may do that, but PLEASE remove my username and location first! I've already received "disturbing" phone calls from other dealers!
When we price out a vehicle, we use the VOC (Vehicle Order Confirmation). But that could be nothing more than a printout; there's no proof that the vehicle was even ordered. The DORA (Dealer ORder Acknowledgement) is Ford's acknowledgement that they've actually received the order and are processing it in their system. For all of you that have ordered a vehicle from me and haven't received a DORA, it's because I don't send it unless someone specifically asks for it. I think we've reached a "trust factor" that it isn't necessary in most situations, but I'll gladly provide it upon request. There's a lot of time and paperwork that goes into an FTE order (more than the usual sale, especially with all the PMs and e-mails), so I'm just trying to keep my work to a frenzied minimum, thank you.
Jeff,
I'll just cut and paste the text of your messages sans your username and location into a word document. Thanks for all of the helpful info...too bad I'm all the way down in Texas. I understand why some dealers and salespeople would not like your educating the rest of us. That's unfortunate because the more we know, the less distrust we have of the dealer. I'll post again when the truck actually gets here and I have to sign the paperwork.
Thanks- Peter
