I'm thinking about buying the diablo sport chip, and my question is:
truck computer is sending out an EGR error code (according to the garage that installed the engine); will this affect the operation of the chip?
To clarify a little bit, when I pull a grade hard enough to kick it out of overdrive, the check engine light comes on, for about 5 seconds. The mechanic came up with what he said was a minor EGR code which wouldn't affect motor performance. So, we left it alone, having just plunked down $5400.00.....

EGR issues can lead to detonation problems (EGR recurlates hot exhaust gas back into the engine). This increases the likelihood of "ping" when installing a chip. You might be able to utilize a chip without problems but I highly recommend you address the EGR problem.

The chip will enhance a correctly running motor. I'd never install a chip in an engine with trouble codes. Address your codes as Ken advises and then invest in a chip. Tune it properly and look at a shift kit for your transmission. AFTER addressing your codes.

Thanks for the help, guys. Truthfully, I've just about got myself talked into a diesel. I drive a constantly loaded vehicle 30 hilly miles to work, and I'm getting tired of struggling up hills AND getting 10 mpg. It's a great truck, but 7500 lbs + 351W + 4:10's + 10 mpg is just not adding up. Tack on a 14' construction trailer and a little backhoe, and I feel like an abusive truck owner.
