How do i find out the information that the VIN tag numbers give on the inside of the door if it is not there and i do not have an owners manual? I have a 1991 F-150 thanx for the help.
I think our trucks also have the VIN number on the dash on the drivers side, viewable from outside the truck thru the front window. Should also be stamped into the framerail somewhere toward the front.
The gear ratio should be on the tab bolted to the diff cover. Ther are a bunch of numbers on ther, but look at the lower left corner i think. But it will be on ther some were.
That's a 3.55 ratio Ford 8.8" axle. The '3' in the ratio is probably covered by the bolt holding the tag on. If you see an 'L' between the '3' and the '55', that means it has a limited slip rear differential. No 'L' means it's an open diff. If you had a door sticker, the axle code would be either '19' or 'H9'. The H-code is for limted slip.
The rear gross axle weight rating is probably around 3800 lbs. I don't know what the GVWR would be.
The front axle is a Dana 44 TTB (Twin Traction Beam). I forget what the front gross axle weight rating would be.
If the trans does not have a granny low first, it's probably the Mazda M5OD. If it has a granny, it's the ZF.
