hey everyone, have posted in other places, but first for here, to make a long story short, have an expedition we are way upside down on, and are looking into an 03 excursion, v10 and 67,000 miles, my question is, can I rely on this engine to last a long time?, gonna have to keep it at least 5 years, and we seem to rack miles up awful quickly, the expedition has 95,000 and starting to have some problems, is the v10 better, or what can we expect, thanks
Truth is, in the used vehicle market it is a crap shoot.
Fords motors and trannys are usually above average reliability wise. But that really depends on the usage and maintnece history.
A trend I saw when only bying used (poor enlisted soldier) was that if the vehicle was owned by a lead foot the power train would crap out faster than the chassis items. And the other side of that is the vehicles that were well maintained by older previous owners tended to get very good all around longivity.
Be very particular about WHO owned the vehicle previously, and multiple owners is a sure indication that the vehicle has problems.
An 03 V10 Excursion shold be very reliable well past 150,000 miles.
The only real problem I see is that I can bet a lot of soccer moms have Ex. and don't maintain them, like Fred said it's a crap shoot. I keep note of everything I do to my truck, whoever buys it is going to know everything that was ever done to it, and I would think that they would be able to assume that since I am so (****?) I would also drive it with care. But since my friend\neibor is buying my truck and knows how it is treated\maintained I am good to go. It seems like with good maintance and truck will last near forever.
much thanks to all of you, went ahead and bought it, after to talking to a ford dealer's shop foreman, he told me that several area businesses used v10s in their service trucks, and get over 200,000 from them with good maintenance, sounds like it wil work for me, if I can afford the gasoline...lol...thanks again, Darrell
