Not unless they sold 45,000 more trucks than Ford in December, at least for last year, the F-series outsold them combined....

Boy did dodge ever take a hit last year.

But I think for this year the ford is already down a few percent over last january.

Anyways, Wnorman, you are correct that the two trucks from GM usually outsell the F-150, but last year was not the case. I believe those numbers are only for the U.S. it be nice to know what they are in Canada as well.

I been watchin for a few years. They do usually outsell the F series. Ford put out a new model. So they had a good year. I like the new f150. I dont usually like the lightweights but its actually a good lookin truck. Wife even asked me to buy her one. I bought used mazda and toyota cars instead. Cheap and reliable with even cheaper insurance. Shed just wreck a pickup.

I think the only year that they outsold Ford was when their body style was new...I don't think they are consistant with it...

People who live in glass houses should not throw stones - I'm saying this rather than what I was originally going to post, to say the least - 36K for your truck
is a "tad" high to me, even for a Lariat AND especially if it has the 4.6....

Not a personal attack. Id have a tough time payin that for something with a diesel in it. Im a cheap snip though. If I can get a brand new diesel for 31k. Why would I pay 36 for a gas powered truck.

Hey guys, remember, the question was:

"Dodge has the longest lasting trucks on the road?"

Maybe they do, maybe they don’t. I haven’t heard any real proof of it here yet. Now, I think we may be able to scientifically figure this one out (Yea!). I like to ask one of you all-knowing Ford enthusiasts here to test my hypothesis however, as I'm guessing my database on this issue is probably no where near some of yours.

The research:

1) Pick three model years of trucks for Ford, Dodge and Chevy, say ’85, ’90 and ’95.
2) Identify the original sales numbers for those model years here in the U.S.
3) Research the current used vehicle market here in the U.S. of those same trucks.
4) Compare the original sales numbers to the current used market.

Simple hypothetical example using model year 1985:

Let’s say in 1985, Ford sold 400,000 trucks, Dodge 300,000, Chevy 300,000 for a total of 1,000,000 trucks (remember, this is a hypothetical). Breaking this down into percentages: Ford 40%, Dodge 30% and Chevy 30%. A current search of used trucks for sale in this same model year finds: 400 Fords, 300 Dodges and 300 Chevy’s, again a split of 40%, 30%, and 30%.

Using speculative reasoning, one may conclude, at least in model year1985, that all three makes are equally as durable. In other words, all three makes have the same percentage of used trucks still in service. To test this reasoning, compile this same information for model years ’90 and ’95. If the ratio remains somewhat constant in all three year groups, our question may be answered.

For 2004 FORD outsold GMC and CHEVY combined... Search MSN autos for the article... It was up there a few weeks ago. Most of the chevy guys are buying GMC trucks right now because of the new style on the chevy.. When you've got a whole message board that, with the exception of a few, dislikes the new style you need to fire the design team. To me the Chevy looks too feminine.

With the earlier models, Dodge made a good truck, didn't rust like the Fords did, especially in the corners of the cabs and over the wheelwells, the 318 was bulletproof and the 727 was as tough as they come, "longest lasting"? Difficult to determine, Fords have always ruled the sales numbers, due in part to the pricing games, and also due to the fact that they make a good truck. Currently, here we go, I think all of the big three are roughly at the same place, all have done lots of sorting out of their products and there aren't any "bad" trucks out there right now....my 2 cents...Mick....98 F150.....
