I am installing a power steering conversion on my 1985 F150 2WD. It has a 300 6 cylinder engine with after market AC. I have the pump, steering gearbox, and all of the brackets from a truck identical to mine. I got the AC bracket from the donor truck but it had factory air and it doesn't look like it will fit my compressor. The pump will bolt up to my engine but it looks like the AC compressor and the power steering pump will have to share the same belt. This would be the easiest way to go but I'm not sure if the belt would live very long going around both components. The Chilton book shows the power steering pump in its own groove on the crank pulley but this won't work on my truck without some fabrication. Does any one have a simalar experience with this? Thanks
would it be possible to use the crank pulley from the donor truck as well? Or do you already have a crank pulley made for more than one belt? BTW, welcome to FTE!
The way this thing mounts up is going to line the power steering pulley up with same groove the AC belt uses. I do have an extra grove on the crank pulley that is closest to the radiator and it would be ideal to use that one, however the pulley on the power steering pump would have to extend out another inch and a half or so to line up with the extra groove. If I could get a pump with a longer shaft it would work out great.
The Factory A/C trucks use a different harmonic dampner than non a/c trucks. It has a different belt spacing. My 82 and 86 have factory power steering, and, both of them use the outter most grove(closest to the rad.) for the p.s. pump, perhaps a bracket from a non A/C truck would be the ticket for you? I think that all you would need to change are the steel brackets on the block, but, having never seen an A/C equipped truck, I can't guarntee it.

I doubt that you would have any problems running the A/C and PS off the same belt. I don't think it would cause excessive wear as long as the pulleys line up. Many of the Hot Rod type conversions run the PS and A/C together.
