Heater motor 6 or 12 volt?

My 56 had been converted to 12 volt when I got it but the heater motor is orginal, Can this be so ? Wouldn't an orginal motor be 6 volt? Confused, please help.

56 was the first year of 12 volt electrical in the Effies, so the heater should be a 12 volt. I understand from other posts that many of the accessories (gages, etc) stayed 6 volt for quite a while, with in-line resitors used to drop the voltage to them.

You can purchase a heater switch from Napa for around
$18.00. They had one on the shelf when I purchased mine. If by chance its 6V the speed selection will cut the voltage to the motor. And it should last a long time.
