black smoke

hello everone i was wondering if there is a rule of thumb on adjusting my carburetor its been adjusted by someone else but now theres black smoke when its idling its a stock 84 4.9 1 barrel ford thanks for any help

not very familiar with the 1 barrel, but i think you might have a float stuck or a needle and seat stuck allowing to much fuel in flooding the motor.

Sounds like the diaphram has a hole in it rebuild it its the easiest carb in the world to repair
