Assuming they do a load test on some rollers, you may be able to pass without the cats guts, but I suppose that would also depend on how they drive the vehicle on the test machinery. From what I understand, the reason the 6sp has a cat is because you control gear and not a computer to prevent conditions that would produce black smoke. It is a lot harder to get black smoke out of a stock auto truck than in a manual. Not the answer you want to hear, but you may be able to pass it.

That thread has some more information. I used to know the years that had them and didn't, but that's an old old post. I'll see if I can't dig it out. I do know that mine had a cat, which is now gone. A few of my friends have PSD's that are Auto and they don't have cats, with stock exhaust. So I guess it might be hit or miss.

Look on the passenger side valve cover. There is a white sticker with orange writing. It has all the emission data on it, as your truck came from the factory. If this sticker "falls off," there isn't any way for the emission tester to know how your truck came from the factory. My 99.5 auto didn't have one. I know of others who have passed in Colorado without the sticker and no cat. Remember, there can be a hefty fine if messing with federally regulated emission crap. Your call. The measured emissions in Denver/Co Springs area has never been above federal regs. They are trying to do away with the program in El Paso county, however the county commisioners and emission czars are fighting it. The whole emission program is another bureaucracy to make states more money. Once the animal is created it's hard to dismantle. Just more muslix eatin, stool watchin' hippie crap in my humble opinion.

here in MA there is a supposed $10,000 fine for removing cat converters. it must be physically there, and if you fail the OBDII test and there is a transient test, it will most likely fail.
also all trucks here above 8500GVWR require tail pipe testing, if they only do a 2 speed tast, that does not check for NOX gases, but again it is supposed to be physically there.
i think NY is doing the same MA31 transient tests as we are.
reason for the tail pipe test over 8500GVWR is the federal government gives our state $600 for each tail pipe test we do. SOME HOW WE AS THE SHOP ONLY GET A LOUZY $29 TO DO THE DIRTY DEED, NOT BAD FOR 45 MINUTES WORK AND TO INHALE HARMFUL GASES HUH!
good luck man it is not worth it here, then if you sell the truck and it does not pass emmissions, the seller must fix it for a sale price over $699, i guess i should move north or south.
