Spark Plug Blow-outs
I was in the local parts store today. I was waiting while they looked up a part for me. That could be another whole story itself. I decided to leaf through their tool sale flyer on page 29 I found a tool. A tool that only applies to ford modular engines. It's a tool that fixes a problem that is said by mfg to not be a real problem at all. So for 600 bucks you can fix your spark threads without removing your head.
I know there was already knowledge, through this site that you could do this. I just saw it as a little ironic that a tool flyer would advertise a kind of expensive, narrow target, tool to the masses. This for a problem that according to the mfg is not a problem.
I've been luck to have not need this tool. But still, just look at how many people have been told when they do, need this tool, that it's not anything they've seen before. They being the dealer.
I'm just suprised they didn't have a special ball joint kit and a hub\bearing kit next to it.
There is a reason you are seeing that tool at your parts source. The problem is becoming very chronic on the trition series of engines. So happens I was in a Checker store in my town today and a guy in line with me was telling me the company he works for just had a plug blow out on a new V10 with only 10,000 miles on it. I thought Ford would have corrected this problem by now. It has been an on going story since these engines were introduced in mid 90's. To change out a head is very expensive. I am told in excess of $3500 dollar for one head change out. The way these engines are designed you have to first pull the timing gear cover before you can remove the heads. So if it happens to mine, I would gladly pay 600 dollars for a tool and put in a Big Cert Kit. Then sell the darn truck! LOL
I guess Ford doesn't consider this problem to worthy of a recall like the most recent one recalling a bunch of F-150's and related units for a 10 cent cruise control switch that can catch your truck on fire even when it is at rest at home in the garage. Now that brings you real comfort doesn't it?
I think read the number to be over 800,000 units to be recalled. So much for Ford's better Ideas, eh?
