Hello everyone.

Recently I purchased a truck out of someone's "back yard" (actually an alley behind their house) for $150. I put a starter on the truck where it sat and drove it home.

1967 Ford F100
300ci 6 cyl single barrel carb
LWB
4 speed manual.
Keystone rims that appear to be decent except for the degradation of the chrome (easily fixed by a rim specialist if they are worth anything).

The truck has seen better days, but the only real body damage is on the passenger fender which is trashed. Otherwise it is some minor rust through at the bottom of the doors/driver fender and the inner fender wells. Also the floor pan on the driver's side is rusted through close to the door. In addition, some enterprising young man who drove it in the past put a sport steering wheel on that is way too small for a non-power steering truck like this. On a good note, the door panels, headliner and dash are in tremendously good shape along with the sun visors which appear almost never to have been used. All the gauges work appropriately and the speedometer appears to be very close if not right on calibration. All the electrical appears to be fully functional except for the blinker unit. The lights come on, but nothing flashes.

Overall, the truck isn't in that bad a shape, just needs some maintenance, tlc, and of course some money.

Now that all the rambling is done, I want to ask if anyone knows of some good parts sources. I am in need of some parts such as the aforementioned passenger fender, wheel wells, original steering assy w/horn, a flywheel (the one in the truck lamentably is missing a few teeth), and unfortunately some parts for the driver window mechanism (window won't go up or down and is open about 3").

This is very similar to the truck I learned to drive on owned by my grandfather, so far from an investment it is a sentimental thing. I am looking to restore the truck (with some minor modifications such as v8 instead of the six, and perhaps a nice radio), so any advice or hints/tips would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum Chris, good find!

From what I've seen, our sponsers seem to offer quality products. Your budget is probably the only constraint you'll have in restoring the truck. If used parts are acceptable, there are quite a few recycling yards is the Denver-Metro area. Some have more pride in their product than others. Self service yards can be a treasure trove, but they're a hit-or-miss proposition.


Unless your flywheel has cracks, you should be fine replacing the ring gear only. It's a simple operation that does require a torch. Your local yellow pages is your best bet for a new ring gear, and shop if you prefer someone else do the work. Your proximity to a larger population center will also be a factor in availability of goods, services, and competitive pricing.

Thanks for the welcome. I look forward to talking with other truck owners and possibly even joining in on some events once I get the truck roadworthy. Of course that is going to include new tires, the flywheel, possibly a clutch....etc....


In any case, in answer to your question of where, I live in Colorado Springs.

Just today I found myself in Denver all day and decided to pay a visit to Truckford parts. I talked with a man named Matt, and he was generous and showed me around a little, and I ended up buying a more-than-used steering wheel that will at least last me till I find a more presentable one (it will at least provide a much more comfortable circumference), the 'horn ring', and one of the internal horn button parts. I also found out a few things about the '67s that I didn't know like the turn signal flash unit is non-standard and unfortunately year specific. I'll have a time finding that one I think if he can't scare one up there. On a better note, he actually has the ring gear and offered to do the labor for a reasonable price if I pull the flywheel and bring it up to him. That was a new on on me. The last and only flywheel I ever replaced was on a '77 Monte Carlo and I don't recall it being a two piece unit. I figure it'll give me an excuse to give my wife as to why I was up there browsing and buying again...

Anyway, thanks again for the welcome. I posted a few initial pics of the truck, and when I pull it out tomorrow into the sunlight I'll take a few more and try to give a better overall view of what I am up against.

The 67 was a transition year truck so you will find it has a lot of one year specific parts. But there will also be a lot that interchanges through the 79 model year... I droped off a spare 65 (another transition year truck) tailgate at Truckford the other day, it's just down the street from my office Lots of good stuff here, if you need something, just ask.

I have a lot of work, and I am sure Truckford and the body shop next door will be the proud owners of a lot of my money before it is all said and done.

Some of the things I am going to try to work out at least in the short term without spending a heap. The driver door window is a good example. I can spin the crank but the window neither goes up or down. I am *hoping* that it is simply something off-track as the previous owner and the previous one before that didn't seem to have many clues about the truck. For example the truck sat for a year plus without a starter physically installed because the flywheel has a flat spot or two. At least they could have left the starter in to cover the hole. Other goodies are both door seals are half-sagging off but don't seem to be in too bad a shape. Looks like the both just need some glue. But on the topic of the driver window, if I pull the window up it will come up an inch or so, cause the crank to jump, and the it won't come up any more and the crank is still as inaffective. I am guessing something is bent or 'off track'. I won't know until I pull the door panel though.

Does the Colorado chapter ever have any 'official' get-togethers? Even if I can't bring the truck just yet I'd be just as willing to drive up in one of the other cars and bring pictures of the truck.

hey cfisher, good lookin truck. I'll watch out for ya around town, we'll halfa go cruise'n in our 67's somtime. Not much for parts down here, I know a guy in Calhan where I've gotten some good parts from, but he's almost outa trucks by now.

 

Sounds like a plan, although it will be a bit before this one becomes street-worthy.


I took a look at your pics. Looks like a really nice truck. Who is the guy in Calhan? He might have a few of the smaller parts I need.

 

cfisher, that guy is a friend of a friend type deal. His property has a lot of just junk cars and trucks, but he was in the process of crushing all of them last time I was out there. What kinda parts are you looking for? I might have/know where you can find 'em.
