Plowing with Diesel

I want to know if any one you people use your diesels trucks for snow plowing, and how it worked out for you? Are they a little nose heavy plowing? Overheating problems, etc.?

I have a 76 F-250 4x4 with the original dealer installed 7 1/2' Fisher plow and a 96 2 door Tahoe with a brand new Fisher 7 1/2 RD plow. The F250 is old and tired, and is a bear to steer. The Tahoe has 125,000 miles on it and is a little on the light side for plowing.

I was thinking of trying to pick up a 95 thru 97 F-350 4x4 diesel and put the new Fischer plow on it. I refuse to get another gas truck....

My father in-law plows with a '94 and has never complained or had a problem.

I have a '99 F-450 with the 165' wheelbase. I love plowing with it. I have a 9'-2" Boss v-plow and a 10' v box salt spreader on the back that holds 5 tons of salt. Trans temp rarely will break 150 and engine temp is normal. Hellacious traction that will move mountains of snow. It's a little slow and pokey to plow with but overall it's great. I also have a 01' Chevy shortbox with a 8'-2" Boss v-plow that is great in tight areas.

No problems plowing - this last storm my entire grill was a block of ice and it still ran normal temps. It does help to have a little weight in the bed.

Yes deffinately a 350, since they have a nice solid front axle and you should be fine. I have a buddy w/ a gasser 250, and independany front (I hate my independant front!! who has an extra dana 60 laying around???) and he destroyed his front end plowing....(also blew his trans, but that a different story)

Thank you guys....I am a slow and pokey plowing guy to start with....I try to be very careful....It sounds like it will be perfect.....The '76 is a little tired and it's time has come to be retired from the plowing.
