How hard would it be to convert trannies

OK I have a Stroker 460 and I just got a C6 for a Fe by mistake ...How hard would it be to make it work on the 460... Seeing a C6 is a C6 the only differences are the bolt pattern... I heard of guys using flywheels off a FE's when they switch to sticks from Auto's, So they must use the same size flywheels between motors ...

Is it feasible.............or should I just return it and get the right one ..

I think you just need to get a C6 for the 385 series motor that you have. Converting yourself would be a mess, unless you're a metal shop guru. I doubt anybody is going to make an adapter since C6 trannies with your bolt patterns are so readily available. You can get a new/reman TCI C6 complete tranny from Jegs for around $750...ready for 450HP...

OK Like I said this one was build by mistake .. I ordered one and I some how forgot to desinagate which BBF motor it would be bolted to .. My Motor will be putting out about 950 Hp ... and the Guy said he'll take it back and build me one for my 460.. I was just thinking of shipping cost and another month's wait ....

Well, at that power level, you need a custom built C6. And a very good one! I can't belive somebody went through the process of building such a beast without clarifying many times over, what motor it was for.....

I don't know for sure, but I think the shaft sizes are differetn the TC bolt patterns and sizes are different, the starter location is probably different....

After the bellhousing, the guts should be the same. Seems to me, it should not be too hard to just find a 385 Series C6 and put your goodies in it. you shouuld be able to easily find a C6 for the 385 in your local junk yards.

You can put all the tranny internals into a C6 case for your 385, that's not a big a deal. The whole thing boils down to there being two diffrent cases. The FE uses a different bell pattern and there are three starter bolts. I recall the 385 series using two starter bolts, different location of starter and it has a completely different bolt pattern on the case. For what it would take to make the FE case work, you are better off sending it back and doing it right. If something ends up going wrong, you can always blame the builder...

Yup, you can take the guts and switch cases. Presto-chango. The 385 starter bolts on with two bolts(that face opposite directions). The bell pattern is completely different. The flexplate should be the same, but convertor will be different.

If you look at any catalog, you will notice that the flywheel for a 460 and FE are the same part number.
