Back up light switch bracket
After rebuilding my column, and reinstalling it in the truck ('71 XLT 3 speed column shift) I am cureous about the bracket that holds the switch. It is held on to the column with a regular hose clamp. If this is the origional configeration it must have been an after thought. Just thought I would ask some of the guru's, It certainly works but. If you're talking about the switch on the bottom of the column that is operated by the little prong that sticks out from the shift tube, that's the neutral safety switch. It allows your car to only be started in either Park or Neutral. I don't think it has anything to do with the backup lights but I don't know for sure. It has a hole in both ends and there should be two corresponding holes in the column to screw it to. If you have a hose clamp then someone rigged it that way. Maybe the holes in your column are stripped out.

the switch you mention is in fact the back-up switch & mine is also held in place with a hose clamp. the switch is still available but they want so much for it that i bypassed the switch & installed a toggle switch in the dash. my truck is a 71 f100. i just had my column rebuilt by steering columns unlimited in hayward,ca
