reprograming

i have a 2000 f150 with duel exhaust and a k&n air filter but where can i go from here? will a programer help with the milleage and power or just power, and yet what one has worked? my key problem is that i pull with it, and yet still drive 50 miles or so a day for work. i want good gas millage most of the time and power when needed for the trailers and loads in the bed. would anyone know what would work if anything?

There are a few handheld tuners available...Diablo and SCT both offer one. Also possible to get a chip with multiple settings. I run a SCT 6600 and can switch between 4 separate programs on the fly. Kind of difficult to get both power and fuel economy though. If you really have the money and time you could get a multi program chip, have a stock setting and a tow setting but to get the most out of a setup you'd have to run a premium fuel calibration to get a bit more aggressive timing.
