i am the proud owner of a 1968 ford f-250 camper special it has a fe with a c6 trans dana 60 rear the stamp on the block saya 352 and not the 501 markings like on all the other 390's i have seen but i thoght they stoped that motor in 67? an i have been told the 360 didn't come out till 74 so that is were i am at i have bought all my parts for a 390 and installed a 4 barrel intake off a 76 390 so if any one can help i relly would like it
Many of the FE blocks have the "352" marking. It does not mean it's a 352, just that the original 352 casting morphed into the 360, 390 and so on FEs. I think the 352 motor was only offered in the 67 (I have one). The best way to tell is to check the stroke - the 352 and 360 have 3.5" and the 390 has 3.78." There are a lot of posts in the "FE" forum that will instruct you on exactly how to determine your stroke. Bottom line: you cannot determine if you have a 390 from the engine markings.
Re the parts you have purchased: If your engine is a 360, it has the same bore as the 390 but it uses the 352 crankshaft so you'll have to replace that. I wouldn't think it is a 352 though, probably a 360 or 390. If it's a 390, you're in the pink. Good luck.

They started offering the 352 in 65, I have one in my 65 f100 that is original. Also I used to own a 68 f250 with the 390, wish I still had that one, great truck.
You are right, they are very hard to tell what FE you have. The FE forum has some great information.
well buddy...I think you might have a '67 converted in 72 to a camper. '67 was the only year ford built the 352 for the f100 f250 that can be easily modified to a 390 with a 4 barrel conversion in carborator and intake manifold. I only say this cuz my '67 f100 posed the same problem once. I wanted to convert it to a 390 and i wasn't 100% sure i had a '67 352. But i have a book that identified my engine through the markings and the vin. The lower end of the engine is exactly the same for 67 to 72 V8's, its the header and manifolds that changed. In '72 there were some dealers who realized the engine difference between an f100 and f250 didnt exist. They were the same truck in '67 and early '68 with only interior changes for the first part of '68. Rear suspension and brakes were the same for the ladder frames and conversions for campers were big at the time with an easy modification of removing the long bed and adding the camper body wich the factory sold as an option to dealers provided they had the truck on the lot. Verify this with DMV. Im not really sure 'cuz i dont have a '68 camper but i've seen them and have taken parts from '68's because the specs were exactly the same for my 67. Hope this helped buddy.
I agree with Jor's post above.
If it is the original engine, look at your vin number. The "4th" space in the vin is a letter which indicates your engine. If its a "Y", you have a 360. If its an "H", you have a 390. To my knowledge they only offered a 240 (A code), 300 (B code), 360, and a 390 engine in 1968 Ford trucks. If Im wrong someone please correct me!

The 352 was offered in the truck line for hte years 1965, 66 and 67. in 1968 it was replaced with the 360 and the 390 was offered, as they use the same 4.05" bore block (the 352 was only bored at 4.00"). Becasue of this, you can turn your 360 into a 390 by usng the crank/rods/pistons from a 390. These all fall under the FE series of engine, so the parts all interchange through 77 which was the last years offered. The stamp of 352 changed to the mirror 105 later in the life of the motor, but has no relation to the displacement of the motor. The VIN codes for the 352 were "D" in 65/66, then "Y" in 67, this then became the 360 code from 68 on. An "H" code is the 390.
