Has anyone here installed an EZ-locker into the ford 9" 31 spline axle?
I have a 3.50:1 9" right now. I have a leak where the hog head meets the housing and since I'm replacing the seal I figured I might want to install an EZ-Locker.
My specific concerns:
1. Did you have to remove either of the axle shafts
2. How hard was it
3. have to mess with shims to put it back?
Best I can tell it fits right into the open diff carrier.
Yep, the EZ Locker goes in the stock open carrier. Shouldn't need to change the shims. Axles do need to be pulled, but it's really easy, just remove the brake drums, hardware, backing plates and retainer plates, slide shafts out. They only have to slide out a couple inches to disengage from the differential, then you can remove the driveshaft and pull the 3rd member from the front of the housing, set it on the workbench and do the locker install where it's comfortable to work .
