Testing and refilling oxygen/acetylene tanks

Hi All,

Dad gave me two large oxygen tanks, two large acetylene tanks, a cart, regulators/hoses, cutting/brazing torches, etc.

Most people I've talked to rent their tanks and tell me mine must be tested/certified before being refilled.

What would be a fair price to have this done...if I can even find someone who will do it? There are a few welding supply stores in my town.

How will I know if they're trying to screw me on testing the tanks and refilling them?

Thanks!
Scott

Most of the time you can just get the tanks exchanged. Sometimes the stores don't like to take someone else's cylinders but they usually will. I own my own tanks (purchased 25 yrs ago) and I just take them in for exchange when I need more supplies.

I have tanks that are small enough to be refilled at the welding supply store. I had one that had to be tested. Must be done every 5 years or so. It was about $25, and included filling. That was a small tank. You can also go where they sell scuba gear. They know where to send them.
