My daughter was driving her F350 on the expressway and it started to slow down on her, 60mph, 55mph, 45mph, 15mph then finally nothing. She tried to start it and it sounded to me like the battery was low, it did the relay clicking thing (as well as I could hear over the cell phone). She let it sit for a bit and it started but after a while it died again. Roadside service here we come .
Thank God it's still under warranty but by just a little, 33.5K. I talked to the dealer and their diesel mech is off on the weekends but the regular mech said now it won't start at all. What makes me nervous is that they say it cranks fine! I was thinking electrical but now I don't know. The not cranking would be electrical but the gradual slow down would be fuel.
Has anyone had anything like this happen?
Thanks!
Mine did that in a snow storm when I froze the intake over with ice/snow ... but it ran after I thawed the air cleaner ...might the air cleaner be plugged up with dirt and such ? ( my intake restriction light came on when my intake froze over ...)
maybe jelled fuel ? how cold is it ?
plugged fuel filters ?
just a few thoughts ....

How much fuel is in the tank? Shortly after I purchased my 2004 F250, I had a similar experience at 953 miles, it lost power and died. The fuel gauge read 1/4 tank and the low fuel light did not come on. The tank was out of deisel fuel.
Come to find out the sending unit was bad in the tank. They also replaced the fuel pump, all was covered under warranty.

had this happen to my 97 7.3 it felt like it was running out of fuel
it was the cam alinement senser it left me standed it happened twice last one has ben ok for the last 60k
Thanks for the replies guys,
After further questioning I'm thinking the electrical was ok and she just cranked it a bit too much to try to start it.
She was coming home after driving in the big midwest snow storm and the front was pretty much covered with snow so I'm thinking clogged air filter / fuel filter with fuel gelling a possibility too. The fuel level was good so it's not a bad fuel gauge. Not sure about the cam sensor. Should have some answers on Monday, it's always nice to go in with an idea of what it can be.
Thanks again!
Got it back from the dealer (actually on Monday, sorry for the delay) and they didn't find anything wrong with it. So, it had to be fuel gelling, when it sat inside it thawed out and everything was fine. We got an additive and we'll be using it from here on out!
Thanks for the help!
I had the EXACT same probelm over the holidays. I made it back home after abont 30 stalling events!!! After a quick trip to my local dealer he said it was a wire shorting on a stud and he repaired the situation. Mine has not missed a beat since the repair. I thought it was a fuel issue, but that was not it at all.
Did your water in fuel light flash as well? You may have missed it since you had one event. After the initial stalling I could wait 3-5 seconds and it would start up again. If I was at idle it would stall out, but I could always restart. I was in Vermont and did not want to mess with it while skiing
Good to hear it's minor winter issue and not a warranty issue. I'm very satisfied with my 2004 F250 CC PSD!
I ordered a case of Stanadyne Premium All-Season Diesel Fuel Additive last night. (12) 16oz. bolltles for $63.08 delivered to the front door in a few days. I typically use a third of the bottle every fill at 1/4~ tank. It also idles a bit louder and burns fuel cleaner from what I've read. There was a link on this great site a while back which benchmarked all the common conditioners, Stanadyne looked to be the best to me according to the results. It's hard to find in normal parts stores. You might try the Motorhaven parts shop link, top right, they may have it.

In the owners manual, there is a statement about getting snow built up on the intake. take a look at your manual. The way you described the conditions your daughter was driving in, this might be a consideration too.
