dual fuel tanks

hey all, just wondering if anybody has ever bypassed one of the tanks in a dual tank setup. i didn't have two tanks in my past tucks, and with having problems with the sending units and front pump, i am thinking about just using one tank.
how can i bypass the selector and still have gauge function(neither one does now)?

It depends on what year truck you have. See if your switch has a;

yellow/white
red
darkblue/yellow
yellow/lightblue
brown/white

If it does, and you want front tank only tie the yellow/white and the darkblue/yellow wires together. I had to do this when my switch went bad, and I only use the front tank anyway. The yellow/white comes from the guage and the darkblue/yellow goes to the front sending unit, and the yellow/lightblue goes to the rear sending unit. The red and brown/white wires are for the solenoid selector valve for the fuel lines.
