Ditch the homebrew manifolds...lookie!
Just found these things via an E-bay auction. They SEEM, from the limited info I can find, that they would lend themselves to the setups people on here dream about...Unfortunatly, they seem to no longer cater to the 335 series engine, so I'm going to have to weld a log to destroy my boat anchor...Maybe someone with a 460 can cough up the $1500+ it takes to see about these things...
oh yah, here's the link.

By the way, not all of the manifolds have a water jacket...

Boat manifolds with water jackets tend to be made of thinner material, thus without water to cool it off, its going to break quicker than a pair of plain old hooker headers made of mild steel.
Homebrew is more of a pain as compared to buying something, I agree, however its not the end of the world if you can weld, even if the beads are ugly. Just as long as they don't leak.

Another option, which I seriously considered for a long time, is to use a pair of F500 or F700 truck exhaust manifolds. Those trucks have either a 370 or a 429, and while the block is radically different than the same series of motors we'd find in our F-series, the exhaust ports are the same. Anyway, these manifolds, unlike our trucks, collect and aim the out-port straight down, which means you can flip them over and aim them up more or less.

BTW, you can find these on e-bay for less than this guy's $200 a pop. Left or right, doesn't make a difference, they are interchangable side to side no problem.

The 429, found in older cars and "toy" f-series (F450 down) is basically the same as a 460.
The bigger trucks, F500 and up, have 370's and 429's, but its fairly different than the 429/460 series, notably in the bell housing area. They have the "generic" pattern like all the larger "rigs", for Allison, Mack, Spicer etc transmissions. Things mount on the blocks different to, the mounts are in different places, and good luck moving one by yourself
But, the exhaust ports are the same, so this was a lucky find. I happened to see a F700 429 in a local junkard, and I measured various things to see what was compatible with the "toy" truck engines... because for a brief while, I was considering the F700 429 with the attached Spicer 7-sp to turbocharge and shove into my F350 crewcab.
I am pretty sure I could have done it... but it would have tripled the installation time... cross member's in the way, motor mounts are in the wrong place, its heavier than a powerstroke, etc etc etc.
Doable, but its a ton of work...
