noise on cold start up

Hi. Recently my 04 V10 has made a brief raspy humming noise on cold start ups. Lasts two seconds and sounds like it's coming from beneath drivers floor board. This morning it was 2 degrees and it lasted a good 10 seconds and went away. I can't think of any other way to describe it, it's just a harmonic metal sound. Any ideas? Thanks.

i get the same thing i can't figure out what it is either. the length of the sound is defently proportional to the temp outside.

Same here.

I have the 5.4 gas and I get the same loud hum along with a loud power steering pump.

Picking at reasons, I would think the hum may be due to the air intake and the amount of very very cold air the engine is getting. The power steering noise I attribute to very cold fluid.

After a 5 min warm up, all is well again and ready to tackle the elements.

yea it does just fine after the noise quits. i never thought of the power steering. i was thinking it was the tranny but you have the manual so that takes that out of the question.

Mine dose that too. I agree with the very cold air that gets sucked into the engine on the initial start up on a cold morning. It only happens too me if its been sitting all night or all day. But if it just sits for acouple hours it wont.

Power steering could be it, I think tonight I'll open the hood and have my wife start it. That will be a first. I don't even let her touch the barbeque.

Me too! I get a vibration sound in the first few seconds. I have noticed some dents and banging marks on my exhaust tubing at the point behind the catalytic converter that has a pretty severe bend in the tubing to get over the rear axle. Could the hangers be too low and it hits? Hmmm, inquiring minds want to know!!! Could it be a combination of both the initial cold blow-out of air coupled with the motor starting up and "jolting" the whole system into action?

There have been a few post on this......Most agree that it is the power steering pump.....it is a growly whine sound.....mine did it this morning for the dozenith time in a row....it was -14 this morning.
