Start and Stall 4.2

Just installed a new motorcraft reman in a 97 f150 and the thing will just start and stall out after the idle flare, checked codes, will stay running if throttle is pressed half open but it pops back into the intake. Does anyone know if the cam sensor has to be synced up or base timing set on these? Any ideas would be great.

was just looking through some old posts, and i saw this one and no one had answered...i don't know anything about the 4.2..but i did have a 94 Jeep Cherokee that did this same thing..and it turned out to be the Automatic Shutdown Relay....don't even know if the 4.2 has one...but just figured i'd throw it out there..

Sounds like timing is off, or as you say , the cam sensor is out of alignment. Get a Haynes manual, and it should be able to help you.
