i have a e-150 van 1989 it idles fine and drives nice in the city, but when i get on the highway and step on the gas i have no power and it slows down and the engine pings and has a hard time shifting can you help, thanks
I have an 85 E150 hightop conversion van - it sucks driving around town and is even worse on the highway. It has the 302 engine with a automatic overdrive - when I step on it at highway speeds, it slowly downshifts, loses about 4 miles an hour and then slooowly accerates. If I stay in it for maybe 10 minutes and there are no hills I can top 80 MPH, unless there is a head wind.
I have never owned a Ford pickup or van that performed so poorly. I swear, the next time I need to take it somewhere I will load it onto a trailer and pull it with my 72 F250 - bet I get there faster and use less gas!
Sorry, but at least once a year I need to vent and rant about that van - the only advantage to it is that it does have a bed and a stove - which it needs because where ever you go you will need to spend the night - it is too slow for any day trips.
