changing d44 knuckles

changing d44 knuckles
is it possible to use chevy or dodge open knuckles from a 3/4 or 1 ton, d44 or 60, and put them onto my 44 so i can enjoy the benifits of open knuckles? and would it make that little 44 a bit stronger?
, i will assume a 76 or older f-250

I dont know if you have the big closed knuckle or the small one, the big one with the big lockout hubs is actually a strong unit, the bad thing is the drum brakes......you can move up to an open knuckle d44 with disk brakes for less than a couple grand, this does get complicated though, i dont know if you can put a high pinion d44 or d60 for that matter in the truck without a lift. i put a high pinion d60 in my truck but i also have 6 inch springs and a married t-case now, so i dont know about clearance issues that might pop up. your best bet is to wait for the upgrade opportunity of a 44 or 60 to come along, if you go looking/wanting/needing it is expensive, best bet is to look for 76-79 f-250 and f-350's for sale( the 76and early 77's will have low pinion front ends but still open knuckle and usually disk brakes)
ps: when you put a disk front end in, you must change the brake master cylinder too
