Missouri Inspections

Any Missouri folks out there know if you need to have a muffler on a vehicle in order for it to pass inspections? I would say the answer is yes but if so I will just build a pipe to take place of the needed parts until inspection time comes.

It has been a lot of years since I was a Missouri folk, but I am a native. You do not need a muffler on a diesel to pass inspection in Missouri. On a gas engine you can not legally modify the exhaust from stock.

Yep

AC1108 you do have to have a muffler on a diesel truck. I have a strait on mine but I take it to a local inspector. My advise is to rig up a muffler to clamp on when you get it inspected.

Try this address it should help you. http://www.dor.state.mo.us/mvdl/driv.../chapter12.htm
If this address doesn't work email me. Where are you in the showme state? The only exception I see for diesel's is that diesels are exempt from any emmisions but you still have to have a muffler.

Thanks for the link. I am in the KC area. I suppose I could always find a friendly local shop to do the inspection but chances are it would be a little rough.

Just get a straight through muffler. No backpressure and Johnny Law is satified.

Walker muffler has one, I've seen the picture and the part number and now I've lost the information. I'll go and try and find it, post back here. It was 3.5 inches at both ends. Or if you have an aftermarket 4 inch exhaust they all have straight through mufflers.

Well I looked and couldn't find it. I know they make them, I've seen them listed and for a pretty reasonable $50.00 too.

Ok, I found it. Do a search for Walker part number 21470.
I found this picture on the internet somewhere.

Thanks for all of the help. I found one at Summit racing and Advanced Auto for $44. I just need to wait for a nice day to cut the old one off and weld on the new. Thanks again.

Today I decided to cut off the muffler and use a piece of 3.5" flex for the missing pipe. After completion I was rather satisfied with the sound. I didn't have the ungodly noise that a gas vehicle would have but it did have a much better tone. Everything will work great for the next 11 months and then it's inspection time again.
