Im hooking up a Headache rack with my brother on his truck.
We are trying to set it up so that it runs off of the current reverse lights power when they are on, and through a switch that uses power off the alternator. I can do the wiring on the "in-reverse" mode, I just need the diagram off the wires under the truck between teh frame rails (or just which color it is). For the switch that relies on power form the alternator that can be switched on when not in reverse, where should I hook/splice this to?

The brake lights are already working.

 

Sooooo, you're looking for a key on hot wire under the truck?? The solid brown wire is hot with the parking lights, would that work?

 

No, need the reverse light wire. Also need to know where I should hook up the switch for power to turn the light on when not on reverse...

 

If the truck came with a tow package, and then that tow package has a seven prong RV type plug, the center pin is the one you want to tap. It is setup with a relay and fuse for reverse lights on trailers. If not, use a relay and pull off of the lights in the back.

 

Oh, ok. Black with a pink trace is the reverse light wire.

I think I might try the trailer light one first so power isnt used from teh regular revcerse lights. That way they wont lose poewr.
